“The group always lifts his spirits”

Dad had become very anxious, unable to cope with lots of people and noises, it was unlike him and really difficult to nail down what was going on. He has never experienced this type of challenge.Last winter was particularly bad, he became very low. I know I pushed him to try and get out and meet people, and I was thrilled when he finally did. It was a huge thing for him to do and I was very proud when he found the strength to go to the Men’s MH Group.Immediately all the guys made him feel very welcome and very much part of the group. He doesn’t tell me the details of what they talk about, just general things like how others have experienced the same as him or how they are dealing with things or shared information on how they have found to be with different medication.I know it’s a safe place for him to talk, and I know he can share his thoughts and feelings with the group.I have seen a huge improvement in him, and I know going to the group has really helped. I can tell when it’s Monday that he is ready for his weekly dose of the conversations they have. On weeks he hasn’t been so good, the group always lifts his spirits – it’s like it picks him up and sets him ready for the rest of the week ahead. They do a great job, I hope they can continue to build on what they are doing.
